  8. Correction to Mariner Mars 1969 Press Kit (Released February 14,  
  9. 1969). 
  10.           Correct weight of the Mariner Mars 1969 spacecraft is  
  11. ___ _______.  The 900-pound figure used in the press kit includes  
  12. the weight of the spacecraft adapter, a cylindrical structure  
  13. which provides the mechanical and electrical attaching points  
  14. between the Mariner spacecraft and the forward bulkhead of the  
  15. Centaur stage of the launch vehicle. 
  16.           JPL builds the spacecraft adapter and delivers a total  
  17. of 900 pounds to the launch pad.  However, the 50-pound adapter  
  18. remains with the Centaur at separation making the injection  
  19. weight 850 pounds.
